The Blitz Tearoom - A Hidden Gem

The Blitz Tearoom in Weston-Super-Mare does not get the credit it hugely deserves. This blast to the past tearoom not only serves up classic British food, it is also a magnificent museum showcasing items from the 1930’s-1940’s

As you enter this hidden time capsule, you are immediately transported back in time. It’s almost like you have walked into some kind of time slip. The classic music playing, the décor and even the vintage clothing the staff wear, all add to The Blitz Tearoom experience. The atmosphere in this wonderful place makes you feel a sense of calm. For me, it reminds me of having tea and cake in my Grandmother’s living room as a child. I’m sure everyone who visits will have some kind of nostalgia.

I know if my grandparents were still with us today, they would fall in love with this beautiful tearoom. My husband’s 90-year-old Grandmother grew up in wartime Britain. She was also an evacuee and has some really interesting stories. Recently, we took GG as my children call her, for lunch at The Blitz Tea Room while she was visiting from London. As you can imagine, she was amazed by the whole place. She especially loved all the old household items on display.

When it comes to the food, you really are taken to another era. Before even tea bags came along! A propa cup of Rosie Lee as my cockney dad would say. Let’s not forget the ration book menus too. We went for the quiche of the day which was so delicious I forgot to take a photo and just tucked in. Of course, I had to take some cake home with me for later too. You really can’t beat a slice of homemade Vicky sponge!

If you’re ever around the Weston-Super-Mare area and fancy something a little different to your everyday Instagram café, I highly recommend this little hidden gem! Be sure to book in advance though as The Blitz Tearoom is super popular.
